Movie Review - Rangasthalam...

Movie: Rangasthalam (Telugu)
Directed: Sukumar
Produced: Naveen Yerneni/Y Ravi Shankar/Mohan Cherukuri
Story: Sukumar
Music: Devi Sri Prasad
Cast: Ram Charan Teja/Samantha/Anasuya Bharadwaj/Aadhi Pinisetty/Jagapati Babu/Prakash Raj/Naresh/Rohini/Baby Annie

Rangasthalam (Performing Stage/Here, Village) - In the movie, The Karate Kid (2010), Jackie Chan as Han, works very hard to rebuild a car for a year only to destroy it as it being a reason for killing his family. For a change, the concept has been copied by the director here (along with many; such as protagonist's look, backdrop scenes, village ceremonies & posters) with the car replaced by a man of evil intentions (PR). Thus, this revenge saga is dealt with really long wait (depicted by length of the movie too) to set balance sheet straight by a happy-go-lucky handicapped hero. The songs and choreography miss the sync, the lead actress delivered a performance seemingly uninterested and with inadept make-up and failing expressions. Anasuya does a fairly good job and lives the role with aplomb. Cherry does a pretty decent job but needs more improvement. Jagapati Babu gets a small and insignificant role and he performs with no soul. The item song and many scenes are unnecessary and uncalled for proving that the Maths Teacher (Director) missed a step in solving and worked backwards to equate; with all mass and masala elements, over the spillage violence but efforts inadequate. Overall, nothing much related to 1980s in this story of a pretty common villager fighting political mighties in a petty way for justice. A stage, not so coming-of-age, clearly under utilized.
