Movie Review - Gang Leader...

Movie: Gang Leader (Telugu)
Directed: Vikram K Kumar
Produced: Naveen Yerneni/Ravi Shankar Yelamanchili/Mohan Cherukuri
Story: Vikram K Kumar/Venkat D Pati
Music: Anirudh Ravichander
Cast: Nani/Priyanka Arul Mohan/Lakshmi/Saranya Ponvannan/Shriya Reddy/Praanya Rao/Kartikeya/Anish Kuruvilla/Priyadarshi Pulikonda/Vennela Kishore/Sathya

Gang Leader - A clean and neat family movie with good screenplay and cinematography. Though the logic is missed in most parts; such as in dates mentioned (9th Aug, 12th June, 14 months), abandoned 14+ storey buildings for more than a year in prime locations, a small kid from an orphanage travelling all alone to collect a lottery, a crime novel writer failing to use pseudo names for sting operation, storing 150 Crores in a dummy pillar of a building under construction; the outcome is a nicely mixed and blended 'pulihora/tamarind rice' item, leaving a good taste. Karthikeya is good as an antagonist and Nani at his usual best, naturally (could have tried a different look as an aspiring and inspiring copy-writer). The dialogs are good and the songs are fine with the performances scoring ten below nine. Climax is a bit out of the box, rest of the movie settles well 'on the rocks' with the effort giving a kick of shots. This Leader of the Gang, goes 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' definitely.

Movie Review - Saaho...

Movie: Saaho (Telugu)
Directed: Sujeeth
Produced: Vamsi Krishna Reddy/Pramod Uppalapati/Bhushan Kumar
Story: Sujeeth
Music: Ghibran/Tanishk Bagchi/Guru Randhawa/Badshah/Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy
Cast: Prabhas/Shraddha Kapoor/Neil Nitin Mukesh/Jackie Shroff/Chunky Pandey/Mahesh Manjrekar/Tinnu Anand/Prakash Belavadi/Murali Sharma/Mandira Bedi/Arun Vijay/MP Michael/Evelyn Sharma/Jacqueline Fernandez/Vennela Kishore/Supreeth

Saaho - In an empire (Waaji City/Mahishmati) whose legal heir (say Bijjala) is handicapped and cannot run it, adopts a son (say Amarendra) and takes care of him along with his son (say Bhallala/legal successor of the throne) and eventually passes on the baton to him, owing to his reputation. This makes the legal son angry and he develops grudge over the adopted son and plans to kill him. He eventually succeeds but unknown to him, is the fact that the adopted son's kid (say Mahendra) is brought up hidden from all and is made ready to take the throne. He has the support of an elderly person and a faithful associate (say Kattappa) of the adopted son, who helps this kid to gain access to all the needed information; to avenge his father's death and then take the throne as the worthy successor (if not legal). Hmm... this story (which took 2 years in making) sounds very familiar as that of the magnum opus 'Baahubali' which was made for over 5 years and raked huge profits. Of course, it does and may be the reason why its Director has been thanked during the title credits of 'Saaho' (even this title is picked from a famous song in 'Baahubali' movie). We even have characters similar to those of Baahubali such as Shraddha (Avantika), Jacqueline (Item Girl) and Goons (Kalakeyas) as well. This story Saaho (also the name of the Hero in the film, similar to that of Baahubali; eventually both portrayed by Prabhas) is an ultra-modern take on the epic of Baahubali and with bad songs and a poor background score; has got very little to score. Not much care has been taken on portraying the Lead as a Hero (not so good hair style and repetitive dressing style), who looked as a big drunkard in most part of the movie and the action scenes/sequences are one too many to digest. Seems an effort made to fulfill a long pending zest; but the outcome on the whole is just. And the rest, at your own interest.
